Running Students

 An educational intervention

Supporting schools and developing young minds for a new world.

"Safe in Space" is a programmed designed to support your school in the RSHE Curriculum.

Our system focuses on Safeguarding and Personal Development. We work in the areas of Decision Making, Personal Safety, and Protective Behaviours whilst building the foundation of confidence and personal ownership in the student. The Safe in Space system is designed to educate students on core life skills, because we believe safety shouldn't stop at the school gates.

Our creative 2 hour workshop teaches decision making and de escalation techniques, the building blocks for conflict management.  SAFE IN SPACE  works not just in developing the students agency and dichotomy of control, but it builds this foundation in a practical way, exploring the individuals systematic process.  Our holistic approach to teaching supports long-term memory retention and therefore usability, its a practical tool for life.

The process involves concentrating on mitigating potential environmental issues through Self awareness, Situational Control and activating the students logic centre to administer action.  These specialised practices enable the student to develop into a competent and reliable contributor to society. Fundamentally "Safe in Space" is a personal exploration into the students character development.

Learning Outcomes:

Our Mission

Our mission at "Safe in Space" is to ignite the senses through practical conditioning. We create an environment that allows students to engage their impulse freely, with real time constructive analysis, encouraging the student to critically think under pressure and interact first hand with the outcome of their decisions. Focusing on self and situational awareness through an interactive experience will encourage competence in assessing real life situations that they may face outside the safety of the school environment.

A personal message ..

As a father of 3 boys, a Coach and Teacher living in London, I became aware of a worrying trend in our children. It appeared their senses were not as engaged as i thought they should be.  This observation led me to the question: Do our children understand cause and effect, on a primitive level? Instinctually are their senses being engaged in the laws of nature, outside the classroom walls, outside the virtual reality of a video game, outside the comforts of our first world homes? If not, why not? What happened? Could it be this generation are losing their ability to make decisions, to engage in real time practical thinking?  Could it be that they are so desensitised that the theory of "use it or lose it" was actually in perpetuation?

Personally, I thought evolution was a slow burner, but my research took me by surprise.  The energy cost to maintain the senses are so heavy that they would literally degrade if not engaged. Furthermore, degradation happens fast because it takes just a few broken genes to lose a complex function in the body, but thousands of precise, coordinated mutations to build a new one. Could it be that our children's senses, the vital development of our evolutionary process were being degraded due to urban lifestyles? Surely the answer isn't to go back into the cave.

With this information, experience and skill set, I decided to develop a 2 hour immersive experience for the child. Focusing on lessons for life, for safety past the school gates, science backed tools to mitigate potential hazards.

We don't want children to live in fear, but we do want our children to be equipped for life. To be ready with a sensible approach to difficult situations, in order to find a clear path forward.  A course to promote a calmer and more skilled decision maker, with simplicity at its core, I created SAFE IN SPACE.

Our Evolution

"When a society goes down, or a society perishes, one condition may always be found; they forgot where they came from. They lost sight of what had brought them along".

Carl Sandburg

Over time, humans have developed a set of intrinsic senses to stay alive. These survival tools have shaped who we are today. In the last 30 years technology has slowed down their use and therefore effectiveness. Our lives are less about adapting to a changing environment, and more about repetitive cycle's.  We now live in a distracted society, where devices demand our attention. Advances in technology lend to a "feel good factor" and less on a "survival factor".  Although devices are useful, they can be damaging to the very essence of who we are: decision makers and action takers. The unpalatable truth is  more and more children are struggling with indecisiveness and attention issues, its not just the food they eat but the environment they keep. The undeniable laws of nature are simple "you don't use it: you lose it". Our instincts were born and conditioned in the wild. Even though now we live in suburbia, threats are still real.

Danger is still real, just in different forms, and by far the biggest danger for our children is a false sense of security.  The fundamental principle of Safe in Space is that "accepting control of any situation, puts you in a position of power", this is where ownership and character are born.
